Dust mites
Today it is estimated that 6 to 35% of the population is sensitive to dust mites, while in some areas the percentage of asthmatics who are sensitive to dust mites reaches 90%.
If someone is sensitized to mites, then when they come into contact with substances produced by them, they may experience symptoms of rhinitis or asthma.
Mites are microscopic organisms (i.e. invisible to the naked eye) that belong to the arthropod family.
They feed on dead human cells and hair and grow best in warm and moist environments such as mattresses, pillows, and carpets.
The feces and waste secretions from adult mites contain the main allergenic proteins, which are extremely small (10-40 μm) and can be inhaled deep into the airways.
Symptoms usually intensify in autumn/winter due to increased humidity.
Proper biological disinfestation and cleaning with special equipment (steam, vacuums) are essential for effective control of mites in the home environment.
Preventive management and regular cleaning can significantly reduce dust mite levels and improve the quality of life for people with allergies.
