Black Worms

They belong to the phylum Arthropoda, the subphylum Myriapoda, the suborder Diplopoda, and to many classes.
Description:
They have a cylindrical body shape with two pairs of legs on each abdominal segment and small antennae. Contrary to their name, they do not have a thousand legs, but depending on the species from 20 to 700 pairs of legs.
Biology:
They are hygrophilous and saprophagous arthropods that live in the litter and surface layers of the soil. After rain, they come out into the open and may enter homes.
Relationship with man:
Millipedes are usually harmless, but they can develop very large populations in basements, country houses and cottages near forests and farmland, potentially causing problems. They can also damage crops. Most species have glands along their bodies that produce a repellent substance for defense.
Treatment:
A good cleaning of fallen leaves around buildings and residual spraying around the perimeter of buildings, both inside and outside, is recommended, paying particular attention to doors and windows.
